Ernest Klennert & Lena Minckow were married on the 30 day of October in the year 1911 and 1 year on the Jack Mulldon farm 1912 and 1 year on Christ Closeal farm 1913 Albert and 1 year with her mother and father 1914 and 5 years on his fathers farm 1915, 1916 Charles, 1917, 1914 Florence, 1919, and 1 year in the town of Millville.  Where we hade a house & Black Smithshope 1920 Willie and 2 years on Jack Mulldon Farm 1921 7 1922.  We were married 10 years Oct. the 30 in the year 1921 Lawrence married and 15 years in the year 1926.

 

My Brother Johnny had this Farm rented and we lived in the house of Ryon and 1 year on John Ryon Farm 1923 & then we move to Aitkin Co. by wagon & Fred Minckow & Louie Minckow took the family out in his Fathers car and Mr. Klennert and his son Albert went on the wagon with his one team & we lived one year on the Bromely place 1924 and 1 year on their own place 1925 then her mother & father & sister Annie & Brother Henry then moved in there own house.

 

Health:  Caroline got sick on November 25, 1944 at home, was taken to Grand Rapids Hospital where she died on December 23rd, 1944.

ONE PATIENT ONLY.. AND CONTINUED TILL SHE WAS NOT ABLE ANY LONGER.

BECOMING TOO ATTACHED TO HER CATS AND SPENDING ALL HER $ ON MILK, ETC.

FOR THEM, DOING WITHOUT HERSELF AND JUST NOT ABLE TO BE RESPONSIBLE

ANY LONGER, DELBERT AGREED AND GLADYS CHECKED HER INTO THE JASPER

CONVELESCENT HOME IN JASPER, TEXAS WHERE SHE WILL BE CARED FOR AND CAN

VISIT WITH OLD FRIENDS SHE USED TO WORK WITH.  IRENE HAS MET BOTH HER

GREATGRANDCHILDREN - COLTON AND CAITLYN DU BOSE WHEN THEY WENT TO

VISIT WITH HER.

When Irene was born, her mother / Florence Bennett Muckelberg/

contacted the dreaded disease black plague going around at that time

.. she died of it - Grandpa Muckelberg placed Irene with her

aunt/uncle in Rochester to care for her.. When she was 3 yrs. old,

Grandpa married Louise Winkle Muckelberg and wanted his daughter back,

which they were not willing to part with her. So telling them, he was

going to take her to town to buy her a pair of shoes, Grandpa stole

his daughter back.  Irene lived a life of luxery and hell with her

Stepmother.  She wore only the finest of clothes and was given piano

lessons on a piano Grandpa purchased for her.. also violin lessons

which she hated.  Her stepmother was jealous of her and had no love

for her / sent her many times for switches to be beaten with.. she

suffered both physical and mental abuse from this woman.  Her love was

her half brother, John Muckelberg, Jr. and he helped her many times

escape the switch... and sometimes caused her to take a whipping.

Tired of living under the roof of this woman, Irene sought marraige to

escape this house.  The stepmother was insisting she marry Elmer Sass,

but Irene married Henry Mickow (Aunt Lessetta married Elmer Sass /

Dad's sister)... and they became fast friends.  Irene had fallen in

love with a soldier before marraige, but didn't believe he would come

back to marry her, so when he opened her door, she stood there with a

son in her arms / too late - she was married to Dad then.She made a

wise choice, though she didn't know it / a finer man she could not

find the world over.  And after three children, she had an affair with

Dad's nephew (John Reimers) and Gladys resulted from that affair.  But

Dad took this child, gave her his name and raised her with love and

tenderness, just like the other children.  Although John Reimers

wanted to keep in touch, bringing clothes and gifts, Henry said no

more at age 3, stating it would confuse the child and make the other

children begin questioning...

And so John Reimers stayed away, loving this child from a far, keeping

the secret, but keeping watch over her until she moved with her Daddy

to Florida... even then he offered a home one last time, keeping the

secret, just offering the home so she did not have to leave her

position with the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.. a fine man to

do this.

WAS HELPER AND AS HE WAS CLEANING THE TRACKS OFF A LARGE BULLDOZER,

THE OPERATOR (WHO WAS DRUNK) STARTED UP THE MACHINE AND FAILED TO WARN

THAT HE WAS BACKING IT.. HE SWUNG IT AROUND, CUTTING DUANE IN TWO,

THEN RAN OVER HIS BODY TWICE.. BEFORE ANYONE NOTICED HE HAD KILLED

THIS YOUNG MAN.  WITH THE CONDITION OF HIS BODY, NO ONE WAS ALLOWED TO

SEE HIM, ONLY GIVEN HIS BILLFOLD AND ITEMS FROM HIS JEANS. HE WAS

GIVEN A CLOSED CASKET FUNERAL IN FREEPORT AND THEN AGAIN IN ROCKDALE,

TEXAS WHERE HE WAS TAKEN FOR HIS FINAL RESTING PLACE, BESIDE RANDY

HORTON, HIS NEPHEW.

JOHN REIMERS HAD A DAUGHTER BY  HAZEL IRENE MUCKELBERG (MICKOW).

HENRY JOHN MICKOW GAVE THIS CHILD HIS NAME AND RAISED HER AS HIS OWN.

HE WAS A PERFECT FATHER TO HER AND LOVED HER REGARDLESS THAT SHE WAS

NOT HIS BIOLOGICAL DAUGHTER.  JOHN REIMERS KEPT IN TOUCH WITH THIS

CHILD, GIVING HER GIFTS, HAVING PHOTOS TAKEN WITH HER UNTIL SHE WAS 3

YEARS OLD, WHEN HENRY SAID IT WOULD CONFUSE HER AND CAUSE PROBLEMS AND

HE COULD NOT COME AROUND ANYMORE.  HE STAYED AWAY BUT KEPT UP TO DATE

OF HER WHEREABOUTS, HER WORKING POSITIONS, ETC... AND IN 1958 OR THERE

ABOUTS, WHEN THE FAMILY MOVED FROM ROCHESTER TO FLORIDA, HE CAME AND

OFFERED HER A HOME WITH HIM AND HIS WIFE/CHILDREN IN ROCHESTER.. WHICH

SHE DECLINED, NOT EVEN KNOWING WHO THIS MAN WAS.

HE KEPT HIS SECRET TO DEATH AND SHOWED HER LOVE FROM AFAR - HENRY
