Ernest lived southeast of Shovel Lake, Minnesota.  He was a blacksmith in his own right, he was a farmer and a logger.  He was a big, big man.  He lused to do work for the surrounding farmers.  Ernest was a serious hunter and he enjoyed hunting.  Ernest was a member of The Modern Woodmen, an active club for the men of Shovel Lake, he served on the Finance Committee.  When he moved back to Lake City from Shovel Lake, he was arrested for killing dogs and burying them in his garden.  The town cops took his air rifle away following his arrest.

Ernest Klennert and Lena Mickow were married on the 30 day of October in the year 1911 and 1 year on the Jack Muldon farm 1912 and 1 year on Christ Closeal Farm. Albert 1913 and 1 year with her mother and father 1914 and 5 years on his Fathers Farm 1915, 1916 Charles, 1917, 1918 Florence, 1919, and 1 year in the town of Millville.  Where we hade a house and Black Smithshope  1920 Willie and 2 years on Jack Mulldon Farm 1921 & 1922.  We were married 10 years Oct., the 30 in the year 1921 Lawrence married and 15 years in the year 1926.

My Brother Johnny had this Farm rented and we lived in the house of Ryon and 1 year on John Ryon Farm 1923 & then we move to Aitkin Co. by wagon & Fred Minckow & Louie Minckow took the family out in his Fathers car and Mr. Klennert and his son Albert went on the wagon with his one team and we lived one year on the Bromely place 1924 and 1 year on their place 1925 then her mother & father & sister Annie & Brother Henry then moved in there own house.

John was the oldest of 4 children of Frank and Regina (Laqua) Klennert.  He attended rural Wabasha County Schools.  He served in the U.S. Army during WW II.

 

Occupation:  John worked as an auto mechanic at Herron Chevrolet in Lake City for over 30 years and ten worked several years at John Peterson Motors in Lake City, retiring in 1982.

Religion:  John has been a member of First Lutheran Church since May 7, 1967. 

 

John was a member of the Lake City VFW.

Military Graveside Rites were by the Lake City VFW and American Legion.

Following the burial, lunch was served in the Education Building, across the street by Christian Action Group #1.

 

Interests:  John enjoyed riding motorcycles and traveling.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Matthew Coleman.

He had a wish to step into the ocean before he died so they took a trip out west.  He died shortly afterwards in Oregon.

Notes for RICHARD KLENNERT:

Richard moved as a child to Blackberry Township near Grand Rapids where he had since lived.  He was a 1962 graduate of Grand Rapids High School and served in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Vietnam War.  He was united in marriage to Bertha Bullock on January 15, 1976, in Marble, Minnesota.  He was a longtime member of the Carpenters Union Local No. 606 in Virginia, Minnesota.  He worked for many years for Kline Construction and later H.G. Harvey, retiring in 2000.  He also was an active volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, serving on its Building Committee.  He attended St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Grand Rapids.

 

Funeral: Monday, July 15, at 1 pm. at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, Grand Rapids, with the Rev. George B. Gilbertson officiating.

 

Arrangements are by Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids.

Lisa was with her girlfriend, Ashley Zoubek and Ashley's mother.  They were going to Ashley's house.  A semi following them did not slow down when they were going to make a left hand turn.  They were one block from Ashley's home.  The truck went right over the car, killing Lisa instantly, breaking her neck and she was burned beyond recognition.  Her friend and her friend's mother were treated and released.

 

Lisa's mother, Joyce had emailed a poem to the family at 2:55 on Friday afternoon.  Who would have thought that within two hours we would have our own angel to throw us pennies?  So, when you see a penny on the ground, think of our newest angel Lisa.

                                       I found a penny today

                                                       Just lying on the ground.

Ray and Karen dated during 1958-1960 while they were classmates in Hill City School, graduating in 1960.

 

Military:  U.S.Army after graduating from High School.  He was stationed in Korea and Thailand.

 

Employment:  Diesel mechanic, worked in construction as a welder and carpenter, logged, farmed and is now (1993 to present) working at Blandin Paper Company in Grand Rapids, Minnesota.  He says it is a good 'retirement' job.

 

Interests:  Off-roading, gardening, and hunting. And, of course, he is well known for his out-spokenness and having NO TACT.  One of Ray's favorite sayings are:  "If he/she is mad, they have 2 choices:  One, they can get over it, or; two, they can stay mad FOREVER.  And it doesn't matter to me which one they choose.

 

Medical:  Ray has diabetes, which he controls with diet.  He has a history of high cholesterol, which he also controls with diet.  In July, 1997, he was in Unity Hospital in Fridley for 6 days when his Right leg had a blood clot.  A protein in his blood is higher than normal causing his blood to have a higher clotting level.  He is on aspirin therapy to help this condition.  He has osteoarthritis.
